Who I am
I am a living definition of the traditional American Dream, having moved to the United States from Mexico at the age of 9 in search for a better life. With the help and guidance of my family, I worked hard to learn a new language, culture, and landscape, and I became an honor student within two years of my arrival.
I am a former football player who was fortunate to grow up in Katy, Texas, where I played at Katy high school under Mike Johnston, Gary Joseph, Don Clayton, Chris Massey, and many other coaches who would shape my views of high school athletics by providing positive examples of leadership, hard work, and dedication. The combined efforts of our team culminated in a 5A Division I State Championship in 1997.
I am a graduate of Texas A&M University and former member of the Corps of Cadets. My college experience in this program helped solidify the values instilled in me through high school football by teaching me the true definitions of teamwork, service, leadership, and toughness, as well as the importance of details. It was a 24/7 immersion into the teachings of our military, and it opened doors for me that I would never have been able to reach without these experiences. Never in my life has a program had such a profound effect on my character and personality.
All of these transformative experiences blended together to instill into me a love for helping others that would propel me to a career in education. I am in the middle of my 21st year in education, serving in many roles including coach, English Teacher, and Campus athletic director. Because I am passionate about personal growth and the ability to improve myself at every opportunity, I am now miles away from the person I was during my first year teaching in 2004.
I am an educator whose number one goal is to make a difference. I know that every interaction I have with a student or staff member is an opportunity to contribute something to that person's life, and I don't take that lightly. I want to make an impact and leave any school or community that I am a part of better than it would have been without me.
